Subject: dont hate tribute bands jackstraw77
its about accepting and appreciating the "new" dead music. these bands play the classics with a new modern approach. i really love how the music has evolved over the past few generations. the music media really is dead, but there is a strong subculture behind this music thats still strong, and it wont grow at all with people like jackstraw77 who dont appreciate new bands and new twists on old songs.

pay no mind to Jackstraw77. This was a great night of music. I really enjoyed it. Now I'm gonna download it to listen to it again remember that night on the hill, left of sb, sipping grey goose with some new friends. THanks again Rob Clarke for the always great work. Oh, the flute was mesmerizing, especially on eyes.....chills

The fact that people even download DSO concerts is pathetic. Why listen to a copycat tribute band when you can listen to the real thing?

Subject: Aww the memories.
This show was amazing. Who cares if all the details of who was on stage at what time are percise. Im lucky to say I attended this fest. The whole weekend my friends and I chilled in the background with their toddlers. We had an awesome time dancing around with the kids and chillin to an awesome tribute to Jerry Garcia. Give this 5 stars

Subject: When has Bob Weir Played with Dark Star?
I found a couple of dates, 10-5-06, and 10-6-07, where Bobby joined Dark Star on stage. Neither of these shows are in the archive though.

Does anyone know dates that Bobby or any of the other members of The Grateful Dead played with DSO?

Does anyone have any of these shows?

Is there somewhere else I should be posting this?

Subject: Help with notes?
OK folks- I see a lot of you were there. I wasn't.

The notes do not jive with what I am hearing necessarily.

For example, early on in the first portion, David Nelson comes out, and is listed as playing guitar. OK- who is playing mandolin? No mandolin is listed.

Later on, Peter Rowan (misspelled as 'Rowen') is shown as playing guitar as well, but he is obviously playing his mandola.

Also- David Nelson introduces Cliff Black on bass at one point. No mention in the notes.

Can some of you collectively help fill in the wholes and get this straight? For posterity?

Who came on when, who left the stage when, etc.

Thanks!
-Chip

Subject: Fantastic tribute!!
this is just a terrific set of music, and being at the show its even more amazing to have all of this available! Havent listened to much of it yet, so i can only reveiw the performance as i remember, but I'll give it 5 stars for its depth of material and for all of the amazing collaboration between so many people. Its listed as DSO, but i would give much credit to the Zen Tricksters for making this a success

Subject: Epic Show, definitely worth the DL
First, this is not a DSO cover of a dead show. It was the Saturday night headliner at the Vibes, a Tribute to Jerry Garcia. Whatever you think of DSO (and I think they do a great job at recreating Dead shows), the cavalcade of artists sitting in is amazing. Donna Jean, Melvin, Jackie & Gloria, David Nelson, Peter Rowan, Martin Fierro, Tom Constanten, Rob Barracco, Reid Genauer, Adam Terrell, the list goes on... It's AMAZING.

DSO was the prefect choice to back this amazing lineup (with some help from The Zen Tricksters). And everyone did a great job with their renditions of various Jerry material.

Listen to Eyes - Adam Terrell's guitar solos are beautiful, Julie Avalone's flute adds beautiful color, and Reid Genauer's voice is beautiful...

Music Never Stopped with Donna Jean? I was freaking out to _finally_ get to hear her sing "Theres'a baaaand out on the highwaaa-aaay!hey're hiiigh stepping into town!"

Rowan and Nelson on the Old & in the Way material? Awesome...

Melvin, Jackie, Gloria and Martin on the Jerry band/Legion of Mary Material?!?

Download it, or at least stream it right now. Truly a great journey through Jerry's catalog of gorgeous music.

Thanks to Terrapin for assembling such and amazing lineup and making it all work!!

Great to have this after having been at this special night of music. Check out disks 3 and 4 if you don't want to do the whole thing. The stuff with Melvin Seals was great! And how about that lightning strorm during Bobby's set on Fri. Wow. Go see DSO, you won't regret it.

Help Slip (and later) Franklin was the Ratdog the night before

As far as this show. Had a great time. I wasn't so eager to download (the old argument that you see a cover band because the main band is unavailable, but why download when you can get the original). But since I downloaded this (the biggest single file I ever did download...took up a third of my C drive), I've listioned to the whole thing three or four times. And I tell you, it sounds original!

Never heard or seen DSO, heard a lot about them but never knew which shows to DL because why download a remake of a show when i can download the real thing? Well, this show is a mind boggling experience. The fact that it is part of a festival dedicated to the dead and jerry makes the energy level raise exponentially, all of the musicians are playing like its their last show. Decent sound quality but the song quality makes me forget about it.

i am NOT a DSO fan. Seen them a couple times before this show and just didn't go for it. But i gotta tell ya this show was alot of fun, maybe it was all the special guests running through the different eras played with jerry, but i really enjoyed this show and cant wait to download. I will DSO another chance since seeing them this show, go ahead and download it.

Subject: IN THE SPIRIT OF . . .
How about not nitpicking and simply enjoying the show. Think of the body of work being covered and the "gathering" (no pun intented) of artists honoring the man and the memory. I'm only about half through but realized early that for the duration there's "nothing left to do but SMILE, SMILE, SMILE."
Going to rate it 5-stars based on what I've heard and the anticipation of what lies ahead

I've been patiently waiting for this show to get posted and as I sample several of the tunes, it's proving wait worthy. This was obviously a fun show to witness and I wish I had been there. Recording quality is pretty decent, even If I'm used to hearing soundboards from DSO. This will certainly fill the bill until the board gets out. D/L this show and enjoy.
